My Approach
I have an integrative approach: I combine the person-centred principles of warm, mutual understanding between therapist and client with the solution-orientated methods of cognitive-behavioural therapy. I use a range of tools that suit the client's personality and are most effective, as long as they are supported by evidence-based literature.

I am a fully qualified therapist and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). I abide by their ethical and professional principles. If you ever wish to raise any concerns about my practice, you can do so here.

About Me

I have PhD and MSc degrees in Entomology and a BSc degree in Agronomy, and my previous activities include university lecturer, academic researcher, field station director and adviser for a governmental organisation. So you could say my path to counselling and psychotherapy has been unusual.

I have hosted and trained more than 100 volunteers to carry out fieldwork in a tropical forest during two-week expeditions. Volunteers were mostly from the UK and US, but also from countries as diverse as Argentina, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Pakistan and Russia. Volunteers went to a 'jungle experience' that included orientation, safety, nature conservation, tropical ecology, natural history and cultural sensitivity.

I have worked as a volunteer for the Royal Voluntary Service, Tayside's Justice of the Peace Advisory Committee and as a volunteer counsellor for Talk Matters (Dunfermline), The Health Agency (Edinburgh) and Tayside Council on Alcohol (Perth).

I can offer you skills acquired from years working with people from all walks of life and backgrounds;
